Brian Casserly Launches The Good Time Charlie Band, a New Jump-Swing Ensemble

St. Louis, MO — Veteran jazz musician Brian Casserly announces the launch of The Good Time Charlie Band, a new jump-swing ensemble drawing from the golden age of American jazz and rhythm-driven popular music. Based in St. Louis and designed for national touring, the band brings together seasoned musicians with deep roots in swing, jump blues, boogie-woogie, early rhythm and blues, and New Orleans–influenced jazz.

Inspired by the enduring legacies of Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, and Louis Jordan, The Good Time Charlie Band emphasizes rhythmic clarity, ensemble interplay, and the unmistakable vitality that defined mid-20th-century American music.  These attributes have already made Good Time Charlie, a soughtafter dance band. Their sound balances immediacy and sophistication, honoring tradition while remaining accessible and engaging for contemporary audiences.

Led by Casserly—an internationally respected vocalist and multi-instrumentalist known for his distinctive one-handed trumpet style—the band features Chase Garrett on piano, Jon Weiss on bass, Josh Baumgartner on sax, and Vinnie Young on drums. The streamlined ensemble format allows for both dynamic performances and adaptability across jazz festivals, concert series, clubs, and special events.

The Good Time Charlie Band follows the recent retirement of Casserly’s long-running ensemble Cornet Chop Suey, which toured extensively across North America, Europe, Central and South America, Australia, and New Zealand, appearing at major jazz festivals and international venues. Founded by Casserly and the late Tom Tucker, the band continued performing after Tucker’s passing in 2022 before concluding its touring chapter in recent years.

“Cornet Chop Suey gave me decades of unforgettable experiences, and I’ll always carry what Tom Tucker and the rest of that band built together,” said Casserly. “Tom passed away in 2022 and the touring chapter came to a close for the group, it felt like the right moment to reimagine how I wanted to move forward musically. The Good Time Charlie Band reflects where I am now—still grounded in tradition, but energized by a new format and a renewed sense of purpose.”

With bookings now underway, The Good Time Charlie Band is preparing for regional and national appearances, with a focus on presenters seeking music that is historically grounded, expertly delivered, fun and deeply engaging.
